Why MRP?
NEURODIVERGENT-AFFIRMING

INDIVIDUALS HAVE STRENGTHS AND CHALLENGES RELATED TO THE WAY THEIR BRAIN FUNCTIONS. THIS IS PART OF THE NEURODIVERSITY OF HUMANKIND. AUTISM, ADHD, SOCIAL COMMUNICATION DISORDERS, GENERAL ANXIETY, LEARNING DISABILITIES, AND MORE FALL INTO THIS CATEGORY.

NEURODIVERGENT FOLKS OFTEN NEED UNIQUE SUPPORTS IN ORDER TO FULLY DEMONSTRATE THEIR STRENGTHS, GIFTS, AND TALENTS MRP PROGRAMS AND SUPPORTS WORK WITH INDIVIDUALS, COUPLES, AND FAMILIES TO BUILD SELF-AWARENESS, BUILD ON COMMUNICATION AND SOCIAL SKILLS, ADDRESS SENSORY NEEDS, AND DEVELOP SELF-ADVOCACY SKILLS

MEGAN AND KATY EACH HAVE OVER 15 YEARS OF DIRECT EXPERIENCE WORKING WITH NEURODIVERGENT FOLKS AND THEIR FAMILIES THEY HAVE COUNTLESS HOURS OF ADDITIONAL TRAINING IN NEURODIVERGENT-AFFIRMING PRACTICES

MOST IMPORTANTLY, PROGRAMS HAVE BEEN DEVELOPED WITH AND VETTED BY NUMEROUS AUTISTIC FRIENDS, FORMER CLIENTS, AND OTHER ADULTS TO ENSURE THE WORK IS DELIVERED WITH RESPECT

Acting Club

Build confidence and social skills through the fun hobby of acting.  No acting experience or line memorization needed! We'll play games and activities to work towards gaining abilities in voice control, movement and presentation skills and theatrical performance.  Open to participants who are working on developing communication skills (verbal communication not required).  
Mondays, May 1 - June 12 (No Session May 29)
Ages:
12-16
Time: 5:30 - 7 pm 
Location: Pawley Hall  (Oakland University Campus) 

Creative Photography

Participants will learn how to best utilize the main functions of a digital camera in different settings.  Participants will then use photographs taken in this program as tools to learn basic editing techniques in Adobe Photoshop.  Instructed by professional photographers, this program is designed for individuals on the Autism Spectrum who do not need 1:1 support. 
Mondays, April 17 - June 5 (No Session May 29)
Ages: 13+ years
Time: 5:30 - 7 pm

Robotics

Learn the fundamentals of Robotics and basic computer programming in this interactive social club. Participants will work with Lego Mindstorm robots and computers to introduce the concepts of building a robot, introduction to programming, demonstrations and competitions, all while working on teamwork and social skills. This program is designed for individuals on the Autism spectrum who can follow multi-step directions with minimal prompts and do not need a 1:1 support.
Wednesdays, April 12 - May 24
Ages: 10-14
Time: 5:30 - 7 pm

OUCARES Summer Pre-Employment Skills Training Program

An intensive pre-employment skills training program specifically for individuals with ASDs and related challenges with strong focus on:
  • "Soft" interpersonal skills (communication, social awareness, networking, team work, accepting criticism, collaboration)
  • Understanding employment (career options, resumes, applications, maintaining a job)
  • Independent living skills (hygiene, money management, community understanding, goal setting)

Monday-Friday 9am-3pm 
June 19 - August 25 (No July 3 - July 7)
